How to Make Your Golf Cart Faster

There are a few ways to make your golf cart faster. Some of these methods are more expensive than others, but they can all help you get the most out of your cart.

Here are a few tips:

  • Upgrade your tires. Golf cart tires are typically designed for low speeds and good traction on grass. Upgrading to high-performance tires can help you go faster and improve your handling.  Larger diameter tires will also increase top speed on most golf carts.

  • Add more power. You can add more power to your golf cart by upgrading the motor or controller. This is a more expensive option, but it can make a big difference in speed.  Upgrading DC controllers will add more torque and speed on shunt carts.  Controller upgrades will only add more torque on Series carts.  AC kits will add the most torque and top speed.

  • Reduce weight. Every pound you can remove from your golf cart will make it faster. You can do this by removing unnecessary accessories or by upgrading to lighter components.  Lithium batteries are the biggest weight saving option for golf carts.

  • Improve aerodynamics. While not as important for golf carts as for cars, improving aerodynamics can help you go faster. You can do this by adding a front spoiler or by smoothing out the body of your cart.
  • Improve suspension components.  Make sure your toe in is set properly.  Make sure tires are not under inflated.
  • Adjust the governor. The governor is a device that limits the speed of your gas golf cart. You can adjust the governor to allow your cart to go faster.

Important Considerations:

  • Check your local laws. Before you make any modifications to your golf cart, it is important to check your local laws. Some areas have restrictions on the speed of golf carts.
  • Safety first. Increasing the speed of your golf cart can make it more dangerous. Be sure to take safety precautions, such as wearing a seatbelt and using caution when driving.
  • Get professional help. If you are not comfortable making modifications to your golf cart yourself, you can hire a professional to do it for you.
  • Start slow. If you are new to modifying golf carts, start with small changes and gradually increase the speed.

By following these tips, you can make your golf cart faster and more fun to drive.
